Kochi Beauty: Caparisoned elephants and their mahuts at the famous Thrissur Pooram, Kerala’s most popular pooram festival. Kochi’s unique identity as a commercial and political centre predates the arrival of the first European traders on its shores in the 16th century. Kochi is a multicultural hotspot where people of many different ethnicities live together in a synergetic environment. This spirit of symbiosis defines Kochi in more ways than one; an interdependent relationship exists between land and water, human settlement and ecology, modernity and history, adding to the cultural pluralism that is so fundamental to its identity. A great way to experience this is to take a two-hour cruise along the Vembanad Lake. The lake, known as kayal in the local language, is home to thousands of fisherfolk. They can be seen gliding along in their graceful canoes, wide nets trailing, with the skyline of the Fort Kochi receding in the background.
Thrissur Great cuisine: Thrissur offers many authentic culinary delights, from all the Malayali culinary delicacies, the Kalan, thoran, avial, the lighter-than-air idiappams and vellappams, to Thrissur’s speciality, the nadan fish curry, made with mangoes, coconut milk and Kodumpuli, to seafood, biryani and dosas. There are plenty of options for travelers on a shoestring budget, nonvegetarians and vegetarians alike. All small hotels in town offer a gastronomic delight, and at the corner of every street, small, albeit greasy, litte places offer outstanding ghee roast dosas. For delicious vegetarian cutlets, omelettes and good coffee at reasonable rates, head to the any of Thrissur’s three Coffee-House- one on round south, one on Post office road and the third near North bus stand. For a wide range of vegetarian and non vegetarian biryanis idiappams, head to Café Casino on the Municipal office road. At Luciya Palace, you can have Malabar fish curry and Karimeen fry.
Athirappilly Waterfall: Athirappilly is a popular picnic spot located in the southeast corner of the Thrissur district between Palakkad and Idukki, on the Chalakudy river, near the vast Sholayar forests. Athirappilly is a small town, whose main landmark is the waterfall. It is located off the Chalakudy-Athirappily road on the Chalakudy river. About 1.5 km down the road from the main Athirappilly falls are the smaller Charpa falls. The most popular sights in Athirappily are the twin waterfalls of Athirappilly and Vazhachal. These picnic spot can draw as many as 6,000 visitors in a day at the height of the tourist season. Two amusement water parks enroute to Athirappily from Chalakudy add to the area’s popularity.
These all the above beauties make Kerala a wonderful spot to visit and you must enjoy this God’s own place in your upcoming vacations with Kerala tour package.
